Field Notes from the Onion Patch
Over the years the Egyptian Walking Onion garden has endured storms, pests, floods, and large relocations. These field notes record some of the more memorable seasons in the life of the colony.

A summer hailstorm snapped the topsets from thousands of plants and filled the garden with the smell of fresh onions.

Prairie voles tunneled through the onion beds and destroyed much of the underground bulb colony.

Winter flooding wiped out most of the onion beds and forced the garden to be rebuilt from surviving plants.
